User GuideHow to Put On DonJoy Defiance OA Knee Brace
- Sit down & undo straps #1-4, leave #5 done up.
- Step through the brace.
- With your knee bent 30-45 degrees & foot resting on the floor, align the centre of the hinge with the top of your knee cap.
- Do up the anti-migration (wide calf) strap first.
- Then do up straps in order from #1-4.
- Tighten strap #5 (back of calf). This strap can stay done up when you take the brace on and off in the future.
Tips for Success
Proper Positioning From the Start
To avoid gaps around the hinges, ensure comfort and most importantly proper function and protection. Ensure you start with the middle of the hinge aligned with the top of your knee cap- a common mistake is starting with the brace too low on the knee. Once aligned, ensure the brace is pushed back so the hinges hug your knee and are not sitting too far forward.
Avoid Slippage
Wear your brace against your skin when possible. When worn over clothing, the brace can be pulled down when you bend your knee. The brace can also migrate down if the thigh straps (#2 & #3) are too tight. When you move, the brace can end up pistoning down your leg.
Ease Into Wearing It
Red and irritated skin can be signs of wearing your brace too much, too soon. Typically it takes about 1-2 weeks for your knee to get used to the brace.
Cleaning Tips
After regular use your brace (particularly the soft pads and straps) get dirty from sweat and oils on our skin.
